Ridge and Valley Charter School is a tuition-free public elementary school located in the Appalachian ridge and limestone valley region of northwestern New Jersey. The school is based on an integrated program, Earth literacy, which includes learning about the natural world and how we as humans can live in a more sustainable manner within the entire community of life. The children experience small classes with hands-on, experiential outdoor education, child-centered learning that extends outside the classroom to our Warren County community, our bioregion and beyond.
We are located on 16 acres with beautiful views of the Delaware Water Gap. In addition to classrooms and offices, we have organic gardens and fields, solar panels, a greenhouse, and a yurt on our premises. We are also a short walk to the Paulinskill River Trail, which classes use frequently. Our grounds are enhanced by student-built birdhouses, debris shelters, herb gardens, miniature villages, trails, campfire, compost bins, solar ovens, artwork, picnic tables, and much, much more.
The school opened September 8, 2004 with approximately 90 students in K-8th ages. Enrollment is open to any child in New Jersey, with preference for students from the districts of Blairstown, Frelinghuysen, Hardwick, Knowlton and North Warren Regional.
